After the highs and lows of December when my nephew married his sweetheart and the depths of Christmas passed by in another malaise of cheery music and horrific crowds at the stores and on the freeways. Although, it was nice to see my Dad at the wedding and to have family visiting, I am so glad it's all over.
My father went back home and soon after his Alzheimer's worsened. I am planning on going to Oregon and staying to help my sister as much as I can. There are tests that suggest Tumor Necrosing Factor might help with Alzheimer's and in fact reverse it. I don't hope for too much but it would be nice to have my Dad back.
As for me, my constant low grade muscle soreness has gotten worse lately. There are times when the pain makes even walking normally difficult. My fingers have been numb and tingly at times then they have been swollen and painful. My right middle finger has trouble bending. According to my Doc my Sed rate has been elevated for over a year indicating constant inflammation. I thought I was exercising too much but when I actually get up and move around I feel better. Today after blood tests my doctor put me on elavil, a strong anti-inflammatory and something for pain. Unfortunately since I already take prozac, I cannot take the elavil. Tomorrow instead of going to an SCA event I will go back to the doctor and try to talk him into giving me lyrica which is the only FDA approved drug for Fibromyalgia anyway. Yeah that is the diagnosis, Fibro. God I hurt, I always hurt I just hurt less after I exercise. Also I have Carpal Tunnel and possibly Arthritis. Yayyyyyyyy.
Abby if you read this before you go to El Centro tell everyone hey for me and let them know I am sorry I cannot come. I really am going to miss that delicious feast they make there. yum. Have a good time though.
Oh BTW I did make some resolutions for New Years. So far they have gone by the wayside.
I hurt too much to do taekwondo, and am taking a bit of a vacay from it.
I haven't written in my blog once a week, well not last week.
I haven't walked twenty minutes with Sara once a day, although I do walk with her (and run some) around the dog park.
I haven't cut down on the sweets.
I did get some cute new clothes yayyyy
I did scan some of my old pics.
here is one of me and my little brother's dog when the world was young
Well the tip is. I think it's a carpal tunnel. Which means I shouldn't be on too long. I took Leila again today. That's Leila not Layla. oops. Josh moved in with our friend Susie for a couple weeks. Unfortunately not only is his dog not getting along with hers, he is not taking care of his dog. He just leaves her with Susie and takes off. I think he is in the first throes of love with a girl but sheesh, don't dump yer dog off. He is a nice kid but I think I know now why he had to leave his last place. Well the couple he lived with were having a baby but leaving your dog and expecting your roommate to take care of it all the time is not good. I think I am going to have to yell at him. I always thought he was a responsible dog owner. He took his dog to the park everyday. Now he just leaves his dog at home and goes off with his new girl. hmmmm. Sigh.
It's a rainy day I talked Susie into letting me take Layla to my house for the day. She and Sarah played then napped and are playing again. Personally I loved the nap best.
Here are some pictures of them napping from the other day when Layla spent the night.
The wedding indeed did not go off without a hitch. We got there at 11 AM to set up and there was no one to let us in. We were locked out. Abby was calling everyone she could think of and I went to the MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation) office to see if they had a key. No luck. Finally Dave and I drove over to another conference center at the the Sub base and finally found someone with a key an hour after we were supposed to be inside. Yes we were on a Navy Sub base. It was at the end of Point Loma the View was marvelous. However I digress.
Poor Abby was very upset and then we found out someone neglected to get her a ready room. It was on the contract but none were assigned to her. Finally a room was obtained which was a good thing since none of the bridesmaids had makeup or their dresses on. We ran around and recruited those who were there to help set up. I ran around making sure the tables were set up and a couple other people put the decorations on the ends of each row of chairs. Chris was calling them pew bows. She did all the flowers. She also made Abby's dress and her own. She made the wrap I wore today and the necklace. She is very crafty and damn good at it.
All in all everything went well. There were some minor glitches but nothing of importance. The guests were pretty much gone by 8 PM so we didn't have to stay.
I went and got mah dawgie. She is asleep right beside me.
I am headed that way too. Good night
Wedding rehearsal.
Let me start out by saying I love Tyler, but I have to laugh when I see his detailed plan for his wedding tomorrow. You can tell he is a born organizer. The schedule is in 15 minute increments. I know he wants to give Abby the perfect wedding. I hope he understands that it's the things that are not perfect that give the best stories later. Like during my first wedding I dropped my ring in the grass almost lost it. heh.
After dragging my ass out of bed at 11 AM this morning. Oh god I was just dead, I had lunch with Sarah's God-Mother Susie. Susie took Sarah home with her to stay for the night and for tomorrow. I grabbed some yarn at Micheal's and ran to the rehearsal. We ran through the wedding twice. Then we went to dinner oh god we ate so much.
The rehearsal dinner was fantastic. We had almost the entire restaurant to reserved for the party. It was a middle eastern place called Aladdin's. The owner was tickled that someone chose his place for a rehearsal dinner that he made sure we were well looked after. I could eat the pickles that are served there forever and the baba ganoush is to die for.
Well I am going to go to bed. I miss my Phil but I am glad he is at his sister's wedding. I wish I could have gone as well but it is not to be. Tomorrow is going to be a long day. I need to be on the site at 11 AM and according to the schedule I am supposed to be on site until 9PM. This makes the reception 5 hours long. I may take a nap in my car around 7.
I found this here. I loled then I lmao, then I posted it.
The smoke, the worrying about friends and family, I think it's starting to die down. Although the closest fire to us is still miles away we do live on a canyon. Phil always worries very much about fire. We pack and make sure we got everything important. For me that means Andrew's ashes and baby book, old photos and as much of the ceramics that my father made for me that I can possibly squeeze into the car. We stage most of it although I did pack as much as I could into my trunk.
My resolution is to scan those old pics so that if they ever are lost I will have copies. I think I will add to that scanning the pages of the baby book and taking pictures of the ceramic pieces. Then copies of those files can be placed in multiple computers so that I can never lose the files even if I lose a hard drive. This was Phil's resolution after the last fire and I should have done it then as well. Hey I can be very slow to catch on at times, but I am sweet (mostly).
I am saddened for those who lost their houses. The amount of evacuees in San Diego County is unprecedented. I am afraid that Potrero lost some of their live oak trees. These are extremely slow growing. On the other hand these live oaks are known to be fairly fire resistant so I am hoping the grasses and the brush burned and left the oaks standing. I can only guess as reports and fire maps are not completely accurate. Looking at the bright side, if the bathroom with those awful shower burn down I think I would throw a party. Another historical reinactor, Lady Muirrenn wrote that she called the ranger station at the park and got their answering machine. That seems like a welcome good sign.
The outpouring from people wanting to help is wonderful. There were so many that volunteers were being turned away at the stadium. I am going with a friend to help with the animals at one of the shelters this weekend. Well time for bed.
Good night
Phil and I need a new fridge. Phil wants a Sunfrost Refrigerator. They are expensive but they sure are energy efficient. The biggest problem is the fit. The fridge is wider and deeper than the space we have unfortunately. The model I would really like has extra freezer space but is also too high to fit in our fridge opening in our kitchen. However that model uses 282 kWh per year compared with about 500 for other fridges I have looked at. The most efficient regular fridge I have found specs for rated at 412. The smaller fridge uses about 176 kWh. The inside dimensions of the freezer are comparable to my current model. The fridge is actually larger. The problem is Sunfrost seems to have a standard depth and width that will not fit in our kitchen. There is an Island in front of the fridge that limits these sizes. I have 5 feet from the wall to the island. I could put the fridge in my craft room but that seems like a pain in the buttocks to access, even though my craft room is right off the kitchen. I am waffling between liking the idea of the super efficient fridge even if I have to get my cold food in another room and wanting a regular fridge that fits. I can live without an ice maker. I can live with having to defrost it every once in a while but can I live with having the fridge in the next room?
I know it's martial.
Nunchucks are illegal in the state of California. You can have a gun in your house, a sword, a club but nunchucks are not allowed. I can only practice with them in a martial arts studio. Mind you it take alot of practice to be able to swing the nunchucks without hitting yourself (and they can leave big bruises) and most dojongs give you light padded ones when you first start learning. If I can stop hitting my boobs and my kidneys I might get good. We will see.
